DLD Voices: The research agenda for developmental language disorder in Australia
11:30 AM - 11:45 AMPresentation summary
The DLD Voices project commenced in 2023 as a grassroots initiative to identify key priorities for DLD research in collaboration with people with LD, their caregivers, and clinicians. Research priorities have been collected as part of a series of community workshops and a professional symposium held in WA as well as a national survey of community and professional stakeholders. Participants' contributions have been analysed using basic content analysis and frequency counts have been used to rank priorities across groups. In this session, we will present the preliminary outcomes of this agenda-setting process; outlining key priorities across domains of education, services, mental health, community, and employment. While the research activities are ongoing, our presentation will identify salient avenues for future research and reflections on social, health, and education policy. We will underscore the vital role of community and professional stakeholders in co-designing the future of DLD research.
Key messages
2. People with LD, caregivers, and clinicians have unique priorities that are linked by common overarching themes.
3. Community advocacy and awareness of DLD remains the core priority for those with LD and their supporters in Australia.
