AI in speech pathology – ethical dilemma or ethical advantage?

1:30 PM - 2:30 PM

Presentation summary

Artificial Intelligence (AI) presents a significant opportunity for innovation in speech pathology professional practice. Ethical considerations are inherent in every area of professional practice and this debate will explore key ethical issues that are present when considering use of AI in a healthcare context.
The objectives of the debate include supporting speech pathologists to be aware of ethical considerations when using AI, examination of key ethical issues that are intrinsic to using different types of AI, why those ethical issues are fundamental to decision making for a speech pathologist, and potential options for managing them.
This debate will use the SPA Code of Ethics as a reference for consideration of potential benefits (the 'ethical advantage' team) and potential pitfalls (the 'ethical dilemma' team) for use of AI in speech pathology, within an engaging presentation format.
