Presentation summary

In this presentation, we describe the process of surveying 354 participants from 44 countries about how they apply the diagnostic criteria for Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) in multilingual children. The results showed that most clinicians felt confident in assessing multilingual children, and they applied the DLD terminology and inclusionary criteria to multilingual children with difficulty learning language, although this was not universal. In conclusion, there are many similarities to the ways that clinicians across the globe assess multilingual children, with differences that may be attributed to clinical experience, professional education, the clinician's role, the system they work in, and the clinician's own language skills.
