Continuity of care in cleft speech services: How do we work better together?

Mikaela Bow is a Speech Pathologist on the Cleft and Craniofacial Team at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and a PhD candidate at The University of Sydney. Her research focuses on improving collaboration and continuity of care between specialist cleft teams, community clinicians, and families to enhance outcomes for children with cleft palate. Mikaela lectures in cleft and craniofacial speech at The University of Sydney and provides clinical supervision and mentoring for speech pathologists working in paediatric and cleft care. She also works in private practice as Director and Principal Speech Pathologist of Empower Health Collective. Passionate about global health, Mikaela volunteers with the Global Smile Foundation, providing cleft services and training for local clinicians in underserved regions. Her work integrates clinical expertise, research, and advocacy to strengthen service delivery and support lifelong communication outcomes for children born with cleft conditions.
