Culturally responsive speech pathology practice for LGBTIQ+ patients and families: Lessons from maternity and child and family health

Cyrena Hunt-Madden is a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist with extensive experience in child speech, language, and communication. She has worked across hospitals, community and Aboriginal health centres, schools, and preschools, and is passionate about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, LGBTIQA+ health, health promotion, equity, and social justice. She completed a Master of Public Health (UNSW, 2023, with excellence) and recently led a NSW Health project exploring LGBTIQ+ families’ experiences accessing maternity and child health services. As a lecturer in the Master of Speech Pathology program at Charles Sturt University, Cyrena teaches paediatric language, clinical reasoning, cultural responsive practice, and access and equity in speech pathology. Her research focuses on the intersection of public health and speech pathology, focusing on improving access and inclusion in the profession. She lives on Darug land in the Blue Mountains, NSW, with her wife and two children.
