‘Language’ doesn’t always mean ‘language’: Exploring First Nations and speech pathologist perspectives on child language assessment practices

Jade Bethune is a speech pathologist whom grew up in the Northern Territory and has worked in very remote First Nations communities for the past seven years. Jade is passionate about First Nations Language assessment and advocacy for recognition of First Nations languages. Jade currently works part-time in FASD research for Griffith University and part-time as a clinician within Laynhapuy Homelands Aboriginal Corporations Primary Health Care team in East Arnhem Land, Northern Territory.
