Speech Pathology in Education: Applying Principles and Practices
Presentation summary
This workshop will explore the application of principles and practices as outlined in the Speech Pathology in Education Guideline.
Attendees will be given the opportunity to unpack the practice of assessment when supporting teachers to improve student access, participation and progress. The session will primarily focus on how speech pathologists take a holistic and person-centred approach to supporting teachers and education leaders in identifying reasonable adjustments and interventions within a tiered framework. Speech pathologists will be encouraged to consider the range of influences on student access, participation and progress, inclusive of speech, language and communication.
The session will explore the concept of tiers as a continuum of increasingly individualised support, use of a range of data sources to inform cohort and individualised instruction and intervention and unpack common challenges and barriers to practice.
Participants will also learn about the Speech Pathology Australia Continuing Professional resources available to continue to support their application of the principles and practices outlined in the Speech Pathology in Education Guideline.
The workshop will provide multiple opportunities in reflective practice and practice improvement.
