Presentation summary
Background and context: The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) “provide a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future” (United Nations, 2015). All 17 SDGs impact the world’s citizens, including speech pathologists and people who experience communication and/or swallowing disability. The SDGs include Good Health and Well-Being (SDG 3), Quality Education (SDG 4), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17). The United Nations encourages strong commitment by all stakeholders, to achieve these goals. Speech Pathology Australia’s commitment includes publication of a special issue of the International Journal of Speech-Language Pathology, highlighting 30+ international commentaries focused on the SDGs.
